In March, 6,133 homes were sold through the Toronto Real Estate Board MLS system, TREB President Marilyn Baubie reported today. "That's a six per cent increase over the same month last year, and the best March we've seen since the late '80s." The President went on to note that both average and median prices continued to climb last month. Average prices rose marginally to $245,553 from February's $245,134; and median prices rose a little over 1% to $210,061 from $207,000. Both were up nearly 10% from March of 1999

Breaking down the total 2,225 sales were reported in TREB's 28 West districts and averaged $224,808; 967 sales were reported in the 14 Central districts and averaged $364,391; 1,204 sales were reported in the 23 North districts and averaged $245,553; and 1,737 sales were reported in TREB's 21 East districts and averaged $192,615.

Neighbourhood Corner:
Markham/Unionville

The Markham/Unionville area (N-11) experienced an active 1st quarter this year, with 171 sales of single-detached homes reported through the TREB MLS system for an average price of $336,010. This is an increase of 20% in sales volume from the same period last year (155), and a 6% increase in price from the $316,460 recorded in the first three months of 1999. In addition, 34 Link homes changed hands in the N-11 district thus far in 2000, for a three-month average of $235,275, up 5% from the $223,707 of 1999.
