Toronto Real Estate Board Welcomes New President

TORONTO, June 28th, 2005 -- In a month when more properties than ever are changing hands, so too is the leadership of the Toronto Real Estate Board as President John W. Meehan takes office today.

Mr. Meehan is the Broker/Owner of Re/Max Unique in downtown Toronto. In addition to being recognized by Re/Max as a broker/owner of the year, Mr. Meehan previously won awards for sales and managing with Royal LePage Real Estate Services. He has been a REALTOR for more than 23 years.

"As a professional association, it's TREB's priority to provide its members with tools that assist them in reaching their full potential. During my term I also want the Toronto Real Estate Board to communicate more with the public. I intend to help consumers better understand the business of transacting real estate and the value that REALTORS bring to this process," said Mr. Meehan.

Mr. Meehan previously served on Habitat for Humanity Toronto's Board of Directors for six years and he is currently a Director of WRP (www.wrphousing.org) a unique one-time project creating housing for working families who could otherwise not own a home.

"Toronto is one of the greatest cities in the world and I believe that everyone who lives here should have a piece of it by achieving the dream of home ownership. It's encouraging that real estate continues to be the engine fuelling our economy but it's also important to remember that home ownership is a solid long-term investment."

Having served on TREB's Board of Directors since 1999, Mr. Meehan has made significant contributions to organized real estate in a number of areas including arbitration, professional standards, MLS and communications.

"I am very fortunate to be working with a group of professionals of unsurpassed strength. Virtually every member of our Board of Directors either owns or manages a successful real estate company or is a top performing salesperson. There is no question that we will accomplish a great deal together throughout the next year."

Toronto REALTORS are passionate about their work. They adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and share a state-of-the-art Multiple Listing Service designed exclusively for REALTORS.

Serving more than 22,000 REALTORS throughout the Greater Toronto Area, the Toronto Real Estate Board is Canada's largest real estate board.
